KTS Recycling operates a hard waste Materials Recovery Facility including the production of Process Engineered Fuel (PEF) facility at Knox Transfer Station.
The process at Knox Transfer Station is to separate and sort hard waste, mattresses and dry commercial waste; to remove fridges (to be degassed), salvageable goods (sold in reuse shop), e-waste, large metal items, non-ferrous metal and cardboard. The remaining material (including mattresses) are shredded using a slow speed shredder, screened and passed over magnets (to remove any remaining metal). The material is then blended in the required ratios and passed through a secondary shredder to make the PEF. The finished PEF is baled and wrapped, then packed into shipping containers for transport to market.
